Biography
Funky, dreamy, full of rhythmic melodies, Mary Jenson and the Music BEYOND is a fusion of Jazz, World and Popular Music. Dubbed “Golden Voice” and “West Coast Cool” Mary Jenson’s soulful voice takes you on a journey through original music and masterfully reinvented jazz and contemporary covers.
Mary Jenson released her second album in January 2011 at Yoshi’s Jazz Club in Oakland. Beyond was inspired by the dream state, a human condition of vulnerability and wonder. This collection of originals, contemporary covers and beautiful Jazz standards is featured in Mary’s live performances that have thrilled and delighted audiences in the Bay Area.
Debuting as #28 on the National CMJ jazz charts, BEYOND returned as #34 a few weeks later. Take a trip Beyond standard jazz…
Mary Jenson came from a large family of 8 children; growing up on various Air Force Bases from Germany to California. Classically trained but with a great love of jazz and contemporary music, Mary spent a few years on the Left Coast of California as a small market radio disc jockey, developing a love of music crossing genres and perspectives.
